I bet there was never a set of namplates that looked that good even fresh off the assembly line.
I thought it was interesting that the plating company recommended "chrome" paint for people who couldn't afford to have it done right, and they made it sound like the paint is actually pretty good. It would be interesting to try it on a set of ratty nameplates or some other formerly-chromed thing just for comparison. Given all the EPA and OSHA rules about chromium, I'm surprised there are still any plating shops left in this country. I just passed one in the Spokane industrial area last week. I would think they'd all be sending their work to Mexico or some other place where safety doesn't matter.
