Parking brake, unknown part

So in looking at a few pics of the parking brake assembly, I see its put together the way I thought it was.

So if the cable end goes right to the levers that pivot to pull the band, what is the purpose of the link, the arched plate, and what does it connect to?

It keeps the 'cams' from pulling forwards, so they pivot. - Chriscase 17:53:46 01/29/2010
