Galen,
I had a sloppy shifter that was due to a worn shifter ball slot and loose pin. I had a local man who was really good with a "spray" mig welder restore the ball. Vaughn helped me with getting it to go back together properly.
If you take the tranny top apart to get the shifter shaft out to inspect it, be careful with that process...see the PIF for notes on that.
