... this is here is yer basic Mesquite tree aka Prosopis glandulosa in fancy Latin terms. The ranchers down here had them designated by the state as a "pest" plant, and there were studies on how to eradicate them because they displaced grazing grasses.
I tried to cut a few limbs one day with an axe (a sharp axe even) because I didn't have a chainsaw, didn't work too well. Ragetty, thorney, nasty black sap, hard hard wood, and I hear the Hohokam Indians used to eat the bean pods, which is probably why they died out. They sure do make good firewood and steaks...
