A few weeks ago I tried to get my fuel tank ready for restore. I dont have a sending unit, and the lock ring is missing so I'll hafta get those.
THe "elbow" as its listed in the parts book, is actually a straight brass female threaded adapter soldered to the tank. I didnt previously know it was soldered with something on the inside of the tank, so when I was prepping it, I tried to unscrew that adapter. Something broke off inside and the adapter obviously wouldnt come out.
Today, I cut the tank open. There is a fuel line size tube in the tank, fastened to a tab on the bottom of the tank, next to the drain plug. Is this tube the fuel pick up line that goes to the adapter, and to the fuel line to the carb?
I am going to try to un solder the adapter, due to the threads and the inner part of the adapter being all chingered.
Before I weld the tank back up, what do I need to put back together inside to get it all to work right? I know I need the adapter, and whatever the tube is. Was there a sock filter on the tube? If I add an external filter, thats not needed. But the tube is corroded and way to short so I need a reference to get the right one
The sender can be done from the sender hole and doesnt need anything done from the inside, right? And for my clarity, the sender is for the fuel gauge, and has the float, right?
Thanks for the help
Nick
