I have never used a pre luber but you might find out what you need to know about them in the archives. And yes the oil pump needs to be primed. I prime the pump, leave the spark plugs out, crank till pressure comes up to full for at least 30 to 60 seconds full pressure, re install plugs and start. When I assemble engines I prelube everything with moly lube or duralube grease. With the plugs out there is minimal load on the crank shaft
