Rear Fenders

I am pounding the dents out of a set of rear fenders and would like to know if they are supposed to have a little crown to them or was this caused by years of use? What I mean by crown is when they come out from the bed they sort of bubble up a little, not just a flat plate of rolled steel. Anyone know?
