It's getting dark out here on he west coast, and I will confirm in the morning but the Truckstell joint pivot point is higher than the center line of the frame...by how much probably an inch or two. If you look at the pictures of the Truckstell joint the top of the swivel joint tube is just below the top ark of the frame crossmember in front of the joint. Now as you can see from the pictures Randy posted of the Ed Willock joint the center line of the joint is considerably below the center line of the frame. Additionally the pivot tube lock collars ( 4 inches in dia. by one inch thick) and hardware are different between the joints. The Truckstell joint has two threaded rings, a smaller inner ring which is used to preload the joint and has a slot cut out through which a allen head bolt goes to pinch the ring closed. Then there is a larger diameter which goes on the outside of the smaller ring and fastens the whole thing down. Finally a cotter pin keeps everything from falling off. The Willock collars seem to be the same diameter and have a large (6in) backing plate on the joint itself. I have not had the Ed Willock apart yet so I don't have as much detail.
As far as the cutouts are concerned the appear to be almost the same between the two joints. Believe it or not when the trucks are completely articulated there is still allot of clearance at the drive shaft/ joint intersection.
Answers to Questions-
1) I can only speak of the I.D tag that was on my Truckstell/Willock (picture number 5 i believe) which certainally suggests some sort of relationship between Willock and Truckstell.
2) Since Willocks were manufactured in Canada I can only assume that Truckstell might have been licensed to manufacture and market the swivel joint concept in the United States.
3) See #2
4) I have seen some pamphlets ( I think Jonas has the originals) that show a Furd two ton with a joint. I can't remember if the brochure was Willock Or Truckstell. Jonas had pictures of this print material up on his Image Event site.
5) It would be interesting to to know if Truckstell and Willock were producing joins at the same time. It is clear that there was some sort of relationship between the two companies because my I.D. plate said Willock Swivel Frame manufactured by the Truckstell Company
The mystery deepens
Jonas we need some input here
