I guess I'd have to ask what your plans are for the truck? If your going to do a lot of offroading in "hairy" situations I'd think you'd be wise to get another or at least carry it for a spare. If it doesn't break, you could always resell.
If just casual use you'd probably be okay following the suggestions below. One thing I would suggest is to use a sleeve but not for strength. If you just tack it on ONE end you eliminate the need for a loop. If it breaks, it's captured that way. I've done that on field repairs and works fine.
On a side note, we were splitting wood with our splitter and the end with the threads that the yoke goes on broke. (5 inch cylinder) It was Christmas and everything was closed and we didn't want to stop so I thought I'd try a repair. V'd it out as eluded to below and weld was 3 beads wide at surface. Bought another cylinder but after 8 years the old repair hasn't broke so haven't changed it out.
