how about the little v-8 that ma-mopar makes? I think it's about 283 or so cu.in. would make plenty of power and would provide pretty good milage and wouldn't rip the guts out of your very,very nice carry all. and would be the modern dependable engine you are looking for. too much horsepower is as bad not enough. just my thoughts, Dave.
