Any sort of alkali will eat aluminum fast. Lye will dissolve it almost immediately, but even strong dishwasher soap or laundry soap will pit it badly. In short, I would not use aluminum for plumbing of any kind. I once had a gas range that rats got into, and all the aluminum gas tubing inside it had pinholes corroded through it simply from the rat urine.
