They are a Bit*h to get the ring off of. The ring rusts and bonds to the rim. The only success I ever had was to spend lots of time cutting the tire off with a sawzall and cutting the steel cable bead with a chisel. Once the tire is completely away from rim, you can then hit the back side of the ring with a sledge in multiple pllaces, and it will work off. I was too cheap to take them to a truck tire shop at the time, but if they charge you 20 bucks a rim, it is money well spent, assuming you are quite sure that the rims are useable. I had some I wasn't sure about, based on the rust I saw on the outside. Thats why I did not want to pay for the tire removal. As it turned out, on a couple of these rims, only the nuts, bolts and outer ring were worth keeping.
