At this point, it's just money, and who pays how much to whom. Do we pay a carbon tax? Do we pay it to the US, to be used on who-knows-what once it's in the general fund, or do we pay it to the UN, to be redistributed to poor countries? Or do we do "cap and trade" rather than a tax, and pay the money to the same Wall Street that created the mortgage mess and then demanded a taxpayer bailout that they spent on bonuses?
All the scientists in the world could come out tomorrow and say global warming / climate change isn't man-made, and it wouldn't make any difference now. It's all about power and control, and a big new source of money to be spent by a select group of people on whatever they want. Do you think they'd ever revoke any sort of cap-and-tax scheme once the money started rolling in?
