Thanks, I'll try that. The races aren't that bad, and I wouldn't replace them just for a winch (wheel bearings or a tranny would be a different story), but they need to come out in order to replace the seals. I have cut them out with a torch before, but doing it without hurting the housing seems to rely on the fact that steel burns easier than cast iron. I was just hoping there was some easy trick. Seems like a poor design. Honda front wheel bearings are similar -- you can press them in, but you must destroy them to get them out. I would have expected better from 50 year old US technology.
