If this doesn't make sense, I can try to sketch it and send it to you in the mail.
Look at the picture of the shifter handle in the exploded page. From the center of the knob to the center of the point where the angle occurs is about 7". The angle is approx. 10 degrees (or 100 degrees, depending how you look at it. In other words about 10 degrees past a right angle (90 degrees). From that same center point it is 1 3/4" to the center of the pivot pin. The shift fork fits into the clutch with a slight amount of slack, so as not to bind. You can probably adjust this as necessary to allow everything to move smoothly. The shifter arm is made on a slight taper toward the knob, probably for convenience, but is about 5/8" thick. I made the little bracket that mounts to the inside of the gear housing out of 5/8" flat stock, drilled the holes as necessary for the mounting bolts and the pivot pin. The drum brake pad will be a bigger challenge, since it's a separate piece, with a little pad riveted on and a threaded rod with a spring around it to adjust tension. It's a do-able job, and will save you around $150.00. I guess it's a matter of time vs. dollars. Like I said, John Eickhof had a couple reproductions like I bought from him for $75.00.
