If you want to save money buy something with older design parts, you don't need the latest fastest thing with 8GB of memory to check the internet. I just set up two brand new Windows 7 computers, and one was a low power HP 311 netbook. The netbook was slower than the new desktop, but it did just fine and was faster than both the laptop and desktop running XP that it replaced. Almost anything you buy over $500 (with screen, less without) should surf the web okay. If you are buying at Best Buy those models can be researched at places like CNET and you can view customer reviews at bestbuy.com, amazon.com, etc. I always look at the customer reviews and see how people liked the product, if 70% give it 4-5 stars that tends to be a better product.
Good luck,
Eric
