Yes the APTs ran the longer engine but I have never seen one up close to see how they did it. There was also a couple airborne versions of Weapons carriers that had modified beds. I saw one a guy here in WA restored and the bed was narrowed kinda like the APT so it could be loaded onto DC3s. so your building the Nachese trail rig! I made it all the way in my stock WC52 and the bed was rubbing many many trees all day! not dents though. it was beautiful up on top of the pass.
