There is a normal, terrible clattery noise from the levers, the pto mostly. Try leaning your calf against the pto lever, see if it gets quiet. Or grab on to the tc levers.
Don't restrict your trouble shooting to the tc, it could be u-joints, transmission, bent drive shaft, misaligned any of the above.
My current truck had the tc off by four degrees. The made every drive shaft angle un-symmetrical. Four fender washers added to the front mount bolts brought all six u-joints into perfect alignment. It's unbelievably smooth and quiet now. Ear plugs at freeway speeds not needed any more!
