dan shockley's hubs are made in china and are likely better than the origs. steve fowlers hubs are made in the us in a family shop so they would get my business. for someone who wasn't going high dollar to get hubs, id go external knob selectros like i did on my command car. even though i will never off road, the $98 spun aluminum variety would never sully my rig. they were always crap and so were the avms on my m37.
by global junk, i guess you mean china / asia and not other 'countries' like germany.
there's some pretty good foreign stuff out there.
