Bill, those M601 guards (like those that Dennis makes) are a curious thing. They seem to be quite common on M601 trucks, but not so much on civilian WDX-WM300 Power-Wagons. Since 1980, I have seen one civilian truck with them factory installed. Not to say that other original installations are not out there, just that I have seen a lot of Power-Wagons, but not many with headlight guards.
With that said, they do exist in the civilian parts lists. You will not find them listed in the logical place - with the radiator grill. They are listed in section 13-68-0, part number 1276 558. This section is wedged right in between sections 13-64-0 (front bumper) and 13-71-0 (draw bar).
I have never found any mention of the headlight guards in any sales literature or salesmans aids. They were obviously an available option, but I don't know how one went about ordering them outfitted on a truck.
Personally, I think headlight guards make the civilian Power-Wagon look too "Military." I have a hard enough time convincing people I meet at gas stations and tractor shows that my WDX and B3PW are civilian trucks and not "Army Trucks". Headlight guards might just seal the fate.
If you go with guards, those that Dennis makes are good quality reproductions of the originals and they blend nice with the lines on the front of the truck. A good example where "less is more".
