Just one little thing about that design, Bell Telephone learned real quick that the stiffarm going thru the front fender was a damn good way to benbd frames.
When carrying a load if the truck goes thru a dip, the frame rail will bend. That design was supposedly capable of handling a 30 class 5 pole, and it could sitting still.
The later generation used a headache rack behind the cab to support the frame/pole, and offered a lot of advantage, particularly when erecting the frame.
No I was NOT driving the one that hit the Elmwood Ave Bridge in 1964, the company said I wasn't in the right Union to drive it. I only rigged it and followed in a chauffer driven van.
