my opinion i have gotten by with a a/c machine 20 years here on the farm a lincoln > it has a 30 percent duty cycle > which means you can burn rods about 20 minutes of a hour or so with out taxing the machine > if you take in account the time you chip and grind welds between rods ,you can get by on the 1/8 stuff > gas diesil or electric i was told duty cycle ment every thing doesnt matter what powers the welder so > In my shop where we welded overhead and some real serious rods the machine had some were around 75 percent duty cycle ac or dc we could "blow" jet rods as big as cuban cigars all day long as long as you had a bucket of water to put the rod holder in to cool it off between rods> when you are burning big rods and high amps get all the machine you can > Dc has its advantages up hill welds over head blind and plug welds but to the average home use a good old a c machine will last a life time ~ Copey
