Dad was a pilot and motor head (we went to the stock car races on Sunday night vs the Broncos), so he got me the 'Visible Slant 6' model kit when I was a kid. It was about 1/8th scale with a panel on the left side that removed so you could see the pistons. It all worked with spark plugs that lit and all. We had quite a few Slant Sixes and I had a TW with one. I like them, but I drove a friends /6 68 crew cab to Denver and back... mighty tedious and slow (forget going to the mountains). I will take a Poly/Hemi V8 anytime with about the same mileage and almost double the HP. I really like FFPWs, but have no use for a flathead... been there, done that. My first vehicle was a stock 48 CJ2A.
Also at 13,000ft. an electric fuel pump is mighty handy. I saw a post about stock pumps... it is all about where you are and experience! Carry a spare for anything electronic. If you have two fuel tanks, have a pump for each.
My /6 TW started after careful prep on the 2nd crank after 10 years + neglect. It ran very well after that after I cured a few sticky valve guides and bent push-rods due to gummed up gas.
Marvel Mystery Oil, ATF and Rislone... good stuff!!
