Will, I have a '99, and had a '95 explorer both had trans problems. The catalytic coverter is so close the heat generated by it radiates to the aluminum trans. case and cooks the rubber parts in the electronic servo's. I have done lots of auto's and like them when built right, but looked at these two and said noooo! Exhaust does have to come down. The other one broke the reverse band, (backing out of a coffee shop parking lot, go figure). After 1 day and $1200.00 later I had rebuilt trans. with new convertor all new fluid and a warranty. It was worth staying off the creeper.
