Well, sludgy still means oil, but with modern gas I don't think you ever get cocoa color.

And I vote your gauge is bad. Re-check with a different one. Then if still 80psi, check you cam timing. Off a tooth is the only thing that makes all of them that low.

Personally, I don't check compression unless the engine fails a cranking rhythm test. Simply leave off or disconnect the ignition, and crank it. Listen for rhythm. No rhythm, no problem. If it's got a beat you can dance to, it may be an insignificant drop in one cylinder. You can hear a 10 psi drop. THEN do the compression test. Crank each cylinder many times, until the needle stops climbing.

And wet/dry tests are totally unnecessary. Squirting oil into the cylinders is impossible to do evenly, uneven amounts will cause uneven results. And no amount of oil seals broken pistons and rings. If it ain't got blow-by, it don't have bad rings. If it's got blowby in puffs, it's bad rings. Or broken piston. In which case, it had zero in that hole on the dry test.
