I've used all kinds of cheap and free tires on all kinds of rigs and I've never had one fail except for getting punctured by something, with the exception of two Les Schwab truck tires that delaminated on the sidewalls when they were only 2 or 3 years old.

I wouldn't want to drive a long way on the freeway in my M37 with its (original?) 1952 dated tires, but they held up when I towed it 400 miles to here. The winter tires on my chevy pickup are the Michelin studded snow tires my father had on his '69 Oldmobile. The tires probably date from the early 70s. No cracks or weather-checking on them, so I think they're fine. I really think its heat and sunlight that ruins tires. On a vehicle parked in the sun all the time, tires go bad fast, but old tires stored indoors don't seem to deteriorate at all. I know lots of guys who know more about tires can tell me I'm wrong, and the date code is everything, but I just haven't seen it. Personally, I think the guy who looked up the date code on those tires I was selling just wanted to sound like he knew something. He just didn't have the money.
