If I recall right, that is a VERY heavy V-6, weighing something like 1000 lbs.
In fact, I just dug up a book and here is what it says:
"GMC's 305-cid V-6 was a true heavy duty powerplant. This was the only engine available in the 4x4s and was one of two in the 4x2s. The engine weighs 1,000 pounds, so the GMC used a much heavier set of front springs to carry it. Parts are a bit more expensive for the 305 V6s than for your average Chevy, but the engine is known for long service life."

Elsewhere in the book it make mention that this engine is powerful but slow-revving.
I think you can see that the front springs on the M37 are going to be on the inadequate side to handle that weight. I don't know if heavier springs fromt he M43 would cut it or not.
