I did a similar swap in my '84 D100 about five years ago. I stroked a 198 slant six, milled the head .100, MP two-barrel intake, Holley carb, header, Comp cam, and port work. The thing ran like a 360... which was what I eventually replaced it with. In retrospect, I should have left the six in it- it got over 20 mpg, sounded killer and had just as much power. Now the truck has a 300+ hp 360 that gets 10 mpg. I'd much rather have the stroker back.
On the bellhousing- you need one from a 318/360 truck with the same trans (A-833OD). One from a standard A-833 or 3-speed will NOT work.
