As I posted on the last forum, Obama just slapped a 35% duty on Chinese tires. That's a fact and a done deal. Don't know what that will do to prices of non-Chinese tires, but the Chinese are already retaliating by slapping their own tariffs on American products (chicken and something else, I can't remember what).
I recently went to Les Schwab and was shocked that they wanted $800 installed for a set of 235/75 R15s in whatever off brand they sell these days. Costco has B.F. Goodrich tires in that size on sale for around $110 and Michelins for $140, installed, which seems a lot more reasonable. Not sure what's happening with Les Schwab; I've been having a lot of minor annoyances with them lately, and they used to be real good. Maybe like a lot of businesses, they're going to pot after the old man died. Maybe some private equity hedge fund MBA type is running it now, or maybe junior is trying to run it and just doesn't have what his old man had. In any case, their prices and their service aren't as good as they used to be.
