Yes, it is a sickness and there are a lot of people who frequent here that have the same problem as you(me included!) We try to justify our sickness by coming together I guess!
Painting the rolled edge pieces basically has to be done when assembled so You have to tape off all the marbles(more labor). If not all the paint gets messed up when trying to reassemble. I like to redo things too and understand where you are coming from. Lots nicer to know you did it as opposed to buying it out of a catalog.
Metal is pretty thin on them and heavy pitting will basically junk them out when cleaned. Keep us posted on your progress when you get started.
