axles are heat treated only to a certain depth, by cutting to lenth or going to deep into the axle for the respline it could do away with the springy part that lets the axles absorb the shock of letting out the clutch,shifts,slipping, and hooking up ect.,ect you get the point, the heat treat is as important as the alloy used.
