I had the same problem with my 1/2 ton Command Car this summer myself, I completely bypassed the miltary fuel filter since mine was full of rust, I never could get a good seal. Check all your connections to see if you have any air leaks. My biggest problem was my fuel tank developed rust that continually would block my lines. I took the tank off and got it refurbished. Also, do you have a heat shield above your fuel pump?? I personally have my filter after my fuel pump right before the carb. I did the same thing years ago to my 52 PW without any problem.
