I meet all four requirements: Smart, Fat, Lazy, and Old.

To loosen a crank nut, use the proper socket, brace the handle of your breaker bar against the drivers side frame, and hit the starter. The crnak rotation will break loose the threads. I got old because I was smart enough to NOT stand where the breaker bar can hit me.

To remove the crank gear if it going to be junk, (NOT on a flat head) insert a cold chisel between the teeth at the key way. Hitting the chisel with a BFH will split the gear, it will slide off. Using an air chisel is even smarter and lazier.

Use a couple looong guide studs screwed into holes for putting heavy parts back into place. Like heads, and especially trannys. Slide the tranny down the studs, and listen to the bell housing ring when it all pops into place.
