Why did put a fuse in there? If everything else is as it was before you messed with it, bypass the mess and try again. If it's not stuck points in the voltage regulator, it should all be OK again. Any time you put a fuse anywhere, consider what load that wiring has to carry before you do it. In this wire (if I wanted to fuse it) I would use a relay with a fused switch wire. That way you still get full electric flow.
