I am a farmer. I can't find the farm program or ethanol subsidies in the constitution either. That said, ethanol is a good product and much of the debate uses very old information from when the production was not as efficient as it is today. There are many investors that have lost it all in the plants in the last year or so.
The major reason for the huge swings in the commodity markets is that the gov't has changed the rules to let the fund traders own and trade huge, huge, huge quantities of market positions and it becomes money chasing money and greed on all sides.
Many of them also lost it all when the markets tanked last year. When one fund trader is holding the entire nation's production amount of soybeans in it's hedge positions.....it will get crazy, and it did!
