In Ontario, if you get caught without insurance, you have 48hours to present it, if you cannot they issue a "driving without insurance" charge, its $5000, and they impound you car. Then charge you $120/day for vehicle storage until the fee is paid.
The cost of the fines can often be higher then the value of the car (unless you drive a new car).
