you better try AB Linn or Sid beck for parts.
Then stick to your idea of NOT running the front locked so much.
Use it only when needed or very slippery. You have to allow for some slippage somewhere for the axle "wind up" to dissipate.
You don't necessarily need to be pulling hard to break things.
Having everything locked up ,with little chance of slippage is just as bad.
I'm sure that axle was hurt long before you broke it.
