Clean the hole really well, apply a thin coating of permatex or similar all round the hole, do the same with the edge of the plug, carefully fit it in the hole and tap into place - if it's a cup type a large socket or similar that's a fairly neat fit in the plug and only put it in so the edge is level with the block or head - if it's a domed type do the same, but have the dome facing towards you, tap it down to the shoulder and with a large diameter flat end drift & hammer give it a couple hits until the dome is almost flat. Don't hit it again if it's almost flat or it might turn inside out and fall out - if that happens start over with a new one. I have seen the holes cleaned out to vigorously and become oversize, hope that's not the case - if it is get a slightly bigger plug machined to suit. I like the brass ones.
