I did the same thing on a Ford many years ago (I put in a 318 with 727) brakes not much good until I put in a booster connected to front wheels only. Sounds weird but it worked well. Remote booster was a VH44 but don't know if you have such things in US. I guess you know the late M601 uses a dual circuit mc with remote brake booster? Can't see it would be too difficult to fit to a FFPW? I went with hanging pedals in my rebuild.
