I think each has their limitations. With a drawbar, it is difficult to tow anything with an eye (lunette ?). For that you need a pintle. With the Power-Wagon pintle, you have no adjustment. I think that was the selling point of the drawbar. It basically improved upon the functionality of drawbars found on tractors by providing adjustability in 3 dimensions. The Power-Wagon was meant to compete against tractors, so the adjustable drawbar was a potential selling point targeted to farmers.
Matt found an interesting use for a pintle to provide extra support for the drawbar. I am suprised, however, that the very end of the drawbar he showed was not bent really bad. Metal out there at the ball hitch is really thin and the chain is not doing much to offer support there.
