It had a freeway first gear too. No low end at all. I would back straight in to launch, but when it came time to recover, I would get the trailer straight, with the truck at a 45°- at least. Then, once the boat was on the trailer, drive the truck crosswise until it had momentum enough to pull ahead. Worked great, but I'm sure the onlookers thought I was another drunk fisherman after a day too long in the sun. ]
But that full sized F-150 got 22mpg highway. And had a posted net payload of 650 pounds.
