Maybe the forward gear in the PTO was stripped out? Maybe they came from the factory that way, and we've all been doing it wrong? It seemed kind of odd (staged?) to me that the one truck stalled out in the water, when the water was probably 2 feet below the air intake level and none of the other trucks had a problem with it.
It was an interesting movie, despite sounding like a commercial for Dodge and Coca-Cola throughout. It was also interesting that they had at least two FFPW buses. I wonder if either of them is still around and is in that PW bus registry. Anybody seen the actual movie? Is it any good?
