To test, remove the coil cable from the dist. cap and hold it about 3/16 in from a good ground using insulated plyers or other tool. Have someone operate the stater to turn the engine to see if you get a bright blue spark. If you get a weak yellowish or red spark, the coil is producing insufficent voltage. This can be caused by:
Bad condensor, points, ballast resistor, or coil.
Points are usually the cause, I would replace and retest
If you do have fresh components, I would replace the coil and retest.
