TO get an idea of the scale of the tragedy, the American Civil War had about 600,000 casualties. A large number any one would say. But, the population then was only a little over 20 million. So, extrapolated to today, it would be like now having 6 million war casualties! Can you imagine the outcry, and the fact that NO one would be untouched.
As bad as any war death is, it kind of puts into perspective the comparatively low numbers of casualties in the middle east wars now.
