Welcome to the world of body work. You are about to start a journey of very hard work.
Get some 80 grit paper and get to work with that DA. Its all got to come off. Dont worry your hands will go numb after a while. You arms and back and legs and neck will get very sore as well. Be prepared to find problems as you strip along. You will get to know your truck very well by the time its all stripped away. You have problems you dont know you have yet. Now is the time to decide if you are going to do a half ass'd job and paint it with rustoleum or do it right and use quality products. If you have some areas that are obvious they will need attention do these areas first and get them taken care of before stripping the rest of it.
If you dont get it all off to bare metal you wont have smooth paint. Some of the newer paints may not stick well if you leave the old layers on. If you are going to have a body shop do the paint you might check with them as they may not like you spraying a self etching primer on it as it may not work well with their line paints they use. You could go to all this work and in 5 months your paint starts flakking off or doing other things. Body shop probably wont guarantee anything as they didnt do the entire process. Then you are out your hard work and 1000$ for paints.
