That a full winch drum of cable is not always best. As each additional layer of cable is added the line pull drops fast. Cable lengths will depend a lot on where your wheeling. Up here in the Northeast, heavy timber and lots of deadmen to anchor to. My trucks run 75 feet of cable so I can have max line pull. I still have enough cable for double line pulls. If your in a area without a lot of deadmen, you may need longer cable lengths. Go to the link, its Paccar Winch Division who owns Braden. The link will take you to a 8000 pound pull braden winch and has a table showing line pull on 1 layer and line pull on additional layers of cable.
