I also have a 1952 M37 and recently acquired a good split rim from Boyce Equipment for $60 plus shipping.
Had some chipped military OD on it so I plan on just knocking that down and repainting. I saw that Sam Winers has these things and since he's only about 2 miles from me I went over there to see what shape they were in. Just let me tell you that by the time I bead blasted them and did whatever else I had to do to eliminate the rust, I'd probably be left with something closer to the size of a lifesaver -- so be careful! some dealers will sell you anything for any amount ... a tire that won't stay on a rim is more than just an inconvenience!
As for changing over to other rims, I researched it and it can be done but it is expensive. Stockton Tire will make a set for you using your centers from your existing wheels but it's about $160 per rim plus shipping.
