Thomas,
I did this in Minnesota about 2 years ago on a old 53' Powerwagon I was given. The previous owner had it for about 20 years and never received a title when he got it as a parts vehicle. I called the DMV and here is what they said. Come in and fill out an application for a new title, attached a bill of sale, submit pictures of the front, back and both sides of the truck and send it to the state. The state review board will determine if they will issue you a title or require you to post a bond. I went in, filled out my application, paid my application fee and walked out with new licence plates for the truck. The gave me plates without even having a title!! The DMV said this is so that you can use the vehicle until the state makes a decision. About 4 weeks later, I got a letter in the mail stating they could not issue a title and that I had to post a surity bond for 3 years in the amount of $1900. (the state picks the value?) I looked in the yellow pages, called a bonding house and got a surity bond for the amount listed and it cost me $195. I sent this back to the DMV and about 4 weeks later, I got my title in the mail with a big stamp over it that a surity bond is pending. If no one files a claim within 3 years, the state will reissue me a new title, clear and free. It's not to difficult to do, it just requires some paperwork. If you need more details, send me an email and I can give you the name of the people I dealt with.

PS: I just picked up a good running 73' W200 for $500, (no title) for my son's first vehicle. I'm going to go through the same process to get him a title and it's a pretty cheap way to get into a powerwagon!
