Regarding 12volt starters. You usually can not put
a 12 volt starter on an M-37 because they are de-
signed to work with flywheel ring gear with 172
teeth and the M-37 flywheel ring gear has 146
teeth. You can however use a 6volt starter with
12 volt as the windings in a 6 volt starter are
heavier and will handle the voltage. This will al-
so turn your starter faster which is kind of nice
as the original starter doesn't turn real fast.
Because the starter switch located on the top of
the M-37 starter is not the same as a 6 volt you
will have to adapt to this in connecting the floor
mounted push rod assembly. We have N.O.S. starters
6 volt for $95ea. We have used gas tank straps for
the lower side of the tank at $20pair.
Hope this helps,
Steve
