Skinny wire works well if you have lots of amps behind it.
My point was that running the fattest wire the machine can will make a little machine put out it's max amps.
Check on <wire feeds, constant voltage, constant amps>. I'm thinking a Tig machine is different internally from a Mig. But I also wonder if it is a distinction without a difference? I do know Tigs are very high frequency, so do a great job of stick welding.
